Salary: Up to £80,465 pa, depending on experience, plus £3285 London Weighting

Location: London with hybrid and flexible working

Hours: Ideally Full Time. Compressed hours, 4 days and job share considered

The Mental Health Foundation is recruiting for a Director of England, a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for change and an understanding of how to achieve great results through others. Your leadership and management expertise, demonstrable experience of strategic thinking and operational delivery and ability to influence and communicate with a range of stakeholders is exactly what we are looking for.  You will be part of an outstanding team committed to delivering in England, collaborating with partners and colleagues across the UK. The Director of England role will oversee our England-based research, policy and community programmes team and sit on our Senior Management team. The role will report to the Chief Executive and have joint responsibility for managing our Public Mental Health Committee of the board. 

What does the role involve?

  • To lead and oversee the Research, Programmes and Policy Teams across England and ensure cohesive, aligned effective delivery of the Foundation’s programmes of work to deliver on England’s part of the Foundation UK-wide objectives.

  • Ensure effective reporting of impact to the board, SMT and Leadership

  • To ensure that the Foundation is a source of recognised expertise and authoritative knowledge on effective, innovative and promising practice, and is influential with key national figures and institutions in the field.

  • To devise and develop programmes of work, research studies and policy campaigns that will enable the Foundation to grow its impact and to raise income, identifying new areas of work and securing funding to develop these.

What skills, knowledge and experience are we ideally looking for?

  • Deep knowledge in at least one of the areas of focus of the Foundation: mental health, public health, mental and emotional well-being or distress, common mental health problems, social inequality and mental health.

  • Leadership skills to motivate, guide and develop staff to achieve high performance in line with strategic goals and priorities

  • Proven experience of strategy development, implementation and evaluation

  • Evidenced experience working at a senior level in a sector related to health, social care or social justice

We are currently operating mostly digital recruitment (including interviews via video conferencing).  We have moved to a hybrid working model of a minimum of 2 days per week in the office and the rest working from home for full time staff, pro rata for part time staff.
