Associate Director, Programmes
*Role Closed*
EMpower
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Location: Global +/- 2 hrs GMT (London) or EST (New York) time zones
Hours: Full Time
Closing date: 12 November 2021
EMpower sits at the nexus of two worlds – finance and youth leadership – where we put smart money behind smart solutions. Our vision is building a world where all young people at the margins, especially girls, have the skills, opportunities, and power to live their full potential. Working to improve the lives and horizons of young people ages 10-24 in emerging market countries, we partner with local organisations and other change-makers, to enable marginalised young people to transform their lives and communities.
In a time of worldwide disruption and change, EMpower has continued to grow and evolve. We are currently operationalising a new grantmaking model that is more closely aligned with our Theory of Change, better reflecting the changing needs of grantee partners and the evolution of trust-based philanthropy practices.
As our grantmaking and programme portfolios have evolved and grown, we have seen an increase in complexity in our internal systems and procedures. We are transitioning to a new grants management software with the aim of stream-lining our processes, while also allowing us to systematically gain insight into the connections between our grant making, programme learning and impact.
The Associate Director, Programmes will play a pivotal role in embedding our new grantmaking model, systems and processes - supporting the team with change management and the ongoing adaptation of our way of working. The role will serve as the lead for our global programme team on end-to-end project management, work-planning, and programmatic operations. Requiring a real ‘systems thinker’, the role will also lead on building a ‘culture of impact’ internally.
The successful candidate will have a history of effective oversight of wide-ranging programme and grantmaking portfolios with extensive experience in end-to-end programme management, planning and operations. Consolidated experience in the philanthropic and/or non-profit sector alongside leadership experience with successful management of high performing global teams is strongly desired.
This role will ideally be based out of any country that is +/- 2 hours of either London (GMT) or New York (EST) time zones. This could include the UK, East Coast USA, parts of East or West Africa or parts of Latin America. Some travel to a hub office in London or New York will be required with very occasional travel to hub offices in Hong Kong and Delhi or other grantmaking countries.
