Salary: £70,000 - £72,000 pa FTE (Pro rata to 0.8 is £56,000 - 57,600 pa)

Every single continent and ocean on Earth is polluted with harmful synthetic chemicals. Some of the chemicals come from the past, but many others are still being manufactured and are even now used in everyday items such as children’s toys, food packaging, sofas and water-repellent clothing.

CHEM Trust – a small charity with a global impact

CHEM Trust focuses its work on preventing this pollution. They bring together science and policy to identify the chemicals that need to be controlled and the best way to do this. They collaborate closely with other environmental and health groups to drive this positive change for people and nature.

Their main area of attention is at the EU level. Even though many improvements are needed, the EU is the region that has the most effective chemicals policy system and EU regulations shape other regulatory systems around the world. They do this work in association with their German partner, CHEM Trust Europe eV, as well as EU-wide groups such as the European Environment Bureau.

They also work in the UK, to keep us closely aligned with the EU system. At the global level They work to deliver improvements to global chemicals management, inspired and informed by the work already done at the EU level.

To strengthen our organisational resilience and extend our reach and impact, they are now recruiting a Chief Operating Officer, who will be a strategic partner to the Executive Director, bringing consolidated finance, people and operational insights and experience. We are looking for a qualified accountant with experience of leading financial strategy and management alongside strong insights into leading and developing an effective people and operations function within a comparable organisation. This is a fantastic role for a senior finance professional who already leads, or is looking to lead, a wider people and operations remit. You’ll be part of a friendly and committed organisation that punches well above its weight, carrying out internationally important work that is done nowhere else in the UK.

This is a formative time to join the organisation. They have grown considerably in recent years and now employ an amazing team of 12 people in the UK and a group of experts within the EU. They have a new Chair and have expanded their Board with new Trustees, who bring renewed ambition and strong skills and insights into their work and operations. They have also just finalised their new organisational strategy, so you’d be coming in at a pivotal moment for the organisation. This is a real opportunity to use your skills and experience to shape the next stage of their development and growth.

This role is for 4 days per week (28 hrs), with at least 1 or 2 of these days at our London co-working office near Euston.
